Eastbourne Speedway's National League fixture against Mildenhall on Saturday is off.

The postponement was announced soon after England's footballers lost their World Cup semi-final in Russia against Croatia.

It now means England will be taking part in the third/fourth place play off on Saturday which the club fears will adversely impact on the attendance at the speedway in the evening.

Forman IT Eagles director Connor Dugard explained the decision.

"With crowds being slightly lower in the last few meetings, we cannot afford as a club to have a poor crowd.

"The kick-off may be at 3pm but we were a bit worried that once people had had a few beers, watched the football and got comfortable, they wouldn't be able to make it to the speedway, or they would find something else to do.

"Essentially that would be financial suicide for us.

"We've seen what's happened to Rye House already this season and making decisions that could potentially cost us money could well send us down the same road," he said.
