Eastbourne Speedway have called off tomorrow’s (March 31) challenge match against Kent because of the continued bad weather.

The soggy Good Friday means the track is waterlogged and will not be fit for racing.

Club chairman, Martin Dugard, said: “There has just been too much rain to give us any hope of getting the meeting on.

“Although Saturday’s forecast is better, the key fact is that there will not be sunshine and a drying wind.

“We have taken the decision today so that people can make alternative plans for the bank holiday.”

The cancellation means Eastbourne’s first three opening meetings have fallen victim to the weather – two at Arlington and one at Kent today (March 30 – in the first leg of the Easter Chase).

The season at Arlington is now due to begin on Saturday, April 7, when the Forman IT Eagles will host one of the semi-finals of the Under 21 British Championship.

We will bring you more news on this in the build up.
