EASTBOURNE EAGLES v. SWINDON ROBINS

ELITE LEAGUE MATCH : SATURDAY 19th MAY 2012 - 7.30p.m. start

life-eagle-logo1Arlington Stadium shall observe a minutes silence in honour of former son Lee Richardson this Saturday evening (7.30 p.m. start time) prior to the Eastbourne ‘Lifestyle’ Eagles scheduled match up with the Swindon Robins going ahead.

Richardson, who captained the Sussex club to their last major honour, the Elite League Knockout cup in 2008 and who also represented Eagles opponents Swindon during a magnificent career, tragically lost his life in a track crash in Poland last weekend.

While the Sport continues to observe a period of mourning at his passing, the two clubs, both of whom Richardson served with such style and distinction shall endeavour to serve up a classic speedway spectacle as a fitting tribute and testament to his memory.

Special arrangements for fans to see football

Eastbourne Speedway has made special arrangements to help fans keep abreast of two big football matches in the next fortnight.

Fans who also follow soccer will be able to stay in touch with the Champions League Final on Saturday (May 19) when Chelsea take on Bayern Munich for the crown of Europe’s top club.
The match will be screened on televisions in the stadium’s two bars.

A 37-inch television screen will be in the clubroom with three TV sets for the bar at the upper level of the grandstand.

The football match gets underway at 7.45pm and the interval for speedway may be adjusted to fit in with half-time in the football.

On Saturday, June 2, when the Eagles take on Poole, England play Belgium at Wembley in their final warm-up match for the European Championships.

The turnstiles at Arlington will open at 5pm in time for the 5.15pm kick off at Wembley so fans can see the football before the start of the speedway.

Saturday’s match against Swindon gets under way at 7.30pm. Before racing begins a minute’s silence will be held in memory of Lee Richardson.

Card for Emma Richardson

If any supporters would like to send a sympathy and condolences card to Emma Richardson and her family, would they please leave them at the Speedway Office by the turnstiles on Saturday evening.

The cards will then all be delivered to Emma.

Lee Richardson 1979-2012

Richardson Lee305Eastbourne Speedway has joined the tributes to former Eagle Lee Richardson who died on Sunday after a crash in Poland.

In a statement, the club’s management said: “Our thoughts are very much with Lee’s family and we send our heartfelt condolences to them.

“We know all Eastbourne supporters will be as distraught and devastated as we all are. Before racing begins at Arlington Saturday, there will be a minute’s silence in his memory.”

Sussex-born Lee Richardson captained the Eastbourne Eagles to KO Cup glory in 2008. As a youngster he rode on the Eastbourne mini-track before signing for Reading at the age of 16 in 1995.

His father Colin Richardson and uncle, Steve Weatherley, also both rode for Eastbourne.

EASTBOURNE EAGLES 48 – COVENTRY BEES 45

ELITE LEAGUE MATCH : SATURDAY 5th MAY 2012

life-eagle-logo1Simon Gustafsson proved to be a last heat hero as the Eastbourne ‘Lifestyle’ Eagles held on to secure a vital 48-45 victory over the highly rated Coventry Bees at Arlington stadium on Saturday evening.
Just three-points (45-42) separated the two sides with four laps of racing remaining and with former Eastbourne duo Scott Nicholls and Edward Kennett in lining up opposition to the Swede along with Bridger in the final race the very real chance remained that the Bees, having clawed their way back from a 10-point 35-25 deficit after heat 10 courtesy of a Kennett inspired 8-1 in the eleventh could complete the job and snatch a last gasp win.
